The University of Malaya academic staff is responsible for teaching and research. More than 2,000 academic staff teaches approximately 300 courses each year.

Master of Medical Science in Clinical Pathology (MMedScClinPath) (Haematology)

The Master of Medical Science in Clinical Pathology programme offered by UM covers comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge to equip graduates with the necessary proficiency to become clinicians who are involved in diagnostic laboratory work and for the field of Forensic Pathology, the involvement with investigations into causes of death and medico legal work.

  • This is a professional programme aimed at proficiency as a diagnostic pathologist.

Course Structure

The programme of study is over a period of one year and consisting of advanced studies and practical work in any one of the following areas:

  • Chemical Pathology
  • Forensic Pathology
  • Haematology
  • Histopathology
  • Medical Microbiology
Language Requirement

Foreign candidates whose first degree is from a university where English is not the medium of instruction must have at least:

(1) A band 6 for IELTS; or

(2) A score of 550 paper based total or a score of 213 for computer-based total for TOEFL.

Without the language requirement above, the candidate must attend and pass the English Language Proficiency Programme (ELP) conducted by University of Malaya Centre for Continuing Education (UMCCed) at the level stipulated by the University.

Entry Requirement

(1) Entry qualifications

(a) Candidate, in the preceding academic session, has passed the Examination for the degree of Master of Medical Science in Clinical Pathology; or

(b) Possesses a Master’s degree in Clinical Pathology or an equivalent qualification approved by Senate; and

(c) Has in the preceding year, at least six month of practical experience in the chosen specialty.

(2) Other requirements

(a) Qualifies for registration as a medical practitioner under the Medical Act 1971 (Act 50) of Malaysia; and

(b) Satisfies the Department responsible for the candidate’s programme of study in an Entrance Evaluation recognised by the Faculty.

Intake Schedule

Once a year in the month of June.
