The University of Malaya academic staff is responsible for teaching and research. More than 2,000 academic staff teaches approximately 300 courses each year.

Master of Nursing Science Degree (MNSc)

The Master of Nursing Science is an academic program that is designed to provide opportunities for nurses to develop advanced skills in professional nursing. The program provides graduates with rigour grounding in research methods, critical analysis and theoretical perspectives that inform clinical nursing. Students will graduate with a sound knowledge of a broad range of research methodologies and methods; the ability to design and conduct a research project in a rigorous and ethical manner; the skill to critically appraise research and make informed decisions for practice change when appropriate and be a critical  and informed thinker regarding issues relating to health.

Course Structure

(1)  The core courses identified for the Master of Nursing Science degree programme as follows:

    (a) Six  (6) core courses each of three (3) credit hours, totalling eighteen  (18) credit hours; 

    (b) One (1) core course of two (2) credit hours;

    (c) Practicum in Nursing of ten (10) credit hours; 

    (d) Nursing Research Project I and II totalling nine (9) credit hours; and

    (e) Two (2) elective courses each of three (3) credit hours. 

(2)        Details of the courses offered are as approved by Senate from time to time on the recommendation of the Faculty and candidates shall be informed of such details at the beginning of each session.

(3)        The list of courses for the programme of Master of Nursing Science is provided in List 1.

Language Requirement

Foreign candidates who are their first degree is from a university where English is not the medium of instruction must  have at least:

          (1) A band 6 for IELTS; or
         (2) A score of 550 paper based total or a score of 213 for computer-based total for TOEFL.

Without the language requirement above, the candidate must attend and pass the English Language Proficiency Programme (ELP) conducted by University of Malaya Centre for Continuing Education (UMCCed) at the level stipulated by the University.

 
Entry Requirement

(1) A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science with a CGPA 3.00 and above or an equivalent qualification approved by Senate; and

(2) Registered with the Malaysian Nursing Board and possess current practicing license; and

(3) Possess a post basic course in clinical specialty which the duration of study should not be less than six (6) months; or

(4) At least two years working experience in the relevant field.
