The following frequently asked questions are common among those contemplating University of Malaya (UM). This page provides answers to these questions and provides links to useful UM websites that provide additional answers.


Each research assistant is entitled to get GRAS. What is the procedure for applying for GRAS?

GRAS is under the responsibility of the Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS). Check IPS website.  UPGP only confirms the appointment as research assistant period for each applicant.

Why research assistant not get salary for the month even they was sending the acceptance of the offer?

This is because UPGP have received the acceptance after the system of salary close. And UPGP will pay this month salary to the next month.

When is the Research Assistant paid?

For Research Assistants who submit CIMB BANK account number, they will get their salary following the salary schedule. Those without CIMB BANK account or those who submit other bank account number will be issued a check.

When will the letter of appointment / extension be issued by UPGP?

Upon receipt of the complete application, letter of appointment / extension will be issued within 5 working days. The letter will be sent to the supervisor’s address.
