The following frequently asked questions are common among those contemplating University of Malaya (UM). This page provides answers to these questions and provides links to useful UM websites that provide additional answers.

I forgot my siswamail password, what should I do?

Please kindly contact Siswamail Administrator at 03-79676726 to reset your password.

What is the speed of wireless access point?

Each access point can support until 10Mbps up to 100Mbps.

How many users can connect at one access point?

Around 30-40 users can connect for 1 access point at one time.

How far the coverage for one access point?

Around 100 meters if no blocking such as wall and corner site.

Why is the wifi connection always slow especially at night?

There are many reason on the issue, but from our monitoring there are many users at night compare to day time. This make the connection slow as we are sharing the wifi bandwidth throughout the campus. If more user connected to the wireless at the same time, the more slower connection you will get.

If I have a problem, who I should contact to?

You can call PTM Helpdesk counter at 03-79674001 from Mon - Thurs : 8.00am - 5.00pm and Fri : 8.00am - 12.15pm, 2.45pm - 5.00pm or logon to to lodge a report.

What is the SSID that i should connect to?

We have two (2) SSID for UM wifi :
For student : UM_WiFi_Student
For staff : UM_WiFi_Staff

How do register for UM wifi?

If you have siswamail or UMmail, you can already login to UM wifi using the same username and password.

How to configure UM Wireless for Windows Vista?

UM Wireless Manual Configuration For Windows Vista.
Step 1: Go to Start Button and click at “connect to”. 
Step 2: Choose wireless network for example “WIFI_08_STUD” or “UM_wifi_roam” and click connect 
Step 3: Click “Connect Anyway” 
Step 4: Open your internet browser to view the network login web page. Type in your username and password (for student, use your Perdanamail username & password for login. As for staff the Ummail username & password can be used) and click “Login”. You should now have a working network connection.
