TAIPING IS THE FIRST PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUENCY SELECTED AS UNIVERSITI MALAYA’S ADOPTED VILLAGE


Universiti Malaya (UM), through its Community Engagement Centre (UMCares), is actively expanding its community service programmes nationwide, targeting all 222 parliamentary constituencies. As a starting point, Taiping has been selected as the pilot area and officially named Universiti Malaya’s Adopted Village.

This inaugural initiative, brought together in collaboration with the Taiping Municipal Council (MPT), was launched through the UMCares@Taiping Launch Ceremony. Taiping was chosen as the pioneer location due to its rich historical heritage and strong potential for sustainable development.

The success of this initiative in Taiping is expected to serve as a reference model for similar community engagement activities in other parliamentary areas across the country. It also reinforces Universiti Malaya’s role as a strategic partner in holistic and integrated national development. The following projects will be implemented in Taiping:

  • Financial Empowerment for Rural B40 Entrepreneurs – Dr Norazlin Binti Ab Aziz
  • Little Hands Explore the World: Orchids, Language & Hope – Dr Rozita Che Omar
  • Kampungxpress Project – Dr Ima Liana Binti Esa
  • Community Stop 3.0 – Empowering the Elderly as Old Timer’s Taiping (OTT) and Community Stop Mobile App – Dr Yong 'Adilah Shamsul Harumain
  • Sustainable Community Initiative: Rehabilitating Illegal Dumpsites Through Green Technology Approaches – Dr Mohamad Sofian Abu Talip
  • Surface Water Assessment, Eutrophication Treatment, and Monitoring of the Water Bodies in Taiping Zoo, Taiping, Perak – Dr Fathiah Binti Mohamed Zuki
  • Investigating Behavioural Ecology and Welfare Assessment of Iconic Large Mammals in Captive Environments: A Case Study at Taiping Zoo, Perak – Ts. Dr Noorhidayah Mamat

TAIPING - KAWASAN PARLIMEN PERTAMA MENJADI KAMPUNG ANGKAT UM

Universiti Malaya (UM) melalui Pusat Jalinan Masyarakat (UMCares) kini giat meluaskan pelaksanaan program khidmat komuniti ke seluruh negara dengan sasaran 222 kawasan Parlimen. Sebagai langkah permulaan, Parlimen Taiping menjadi kawasan perintis dan dipilih sebagai Kampung Angkat UM.

Inisiatif sulung ini yang direalisasikan dengan kerjasama Majlis Perbandaran Taiping (MPT), menerusi Majlis Pelancaran UMCares@Taiping. Taiping dipilih sebagai lokasi perintis kerana nilai sejarahnya yang kaya serta potensinya dalam pembangunan mampan. 

Kejayaan pelaksanaan inisiatif ini di Taiping dijangka menjadi model rujukan bagi pelaksanaan aktiviti libatsama komuniti di kawasan-kawasan Parlimen lain di seluruh negara. Ia sekali gus memperkukuh peranan Universiti Malaya sebagai rakan strategik dalam pembangunan negara secara holistik dan bersepadu. Antara projek yang akan berjalan di Taiping adalah :
