Biography

ChM. Dr. Lee Kian Mun is a Senior Research Officer at the Nanotechnology and  Catalysis Research Centre (NANOCAT), Universiti Malaya. He obtained his BSc  (Hons) in Industrial Chemistry (2006), Master of Science in Catalysis (2008), and PhD  in Environmental Chemistry (2013) from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. 

With over a decade of research experience, Dr. Lee specializes in the development  and optimization of nanomaterials and photocatalysts for environmental applications.  His work focuses on advancing sustainable solutions for pollution control and  environmental remediation. To date, he has authored more than 45 WoS-indexed  publications, with an h-index of 21 (3,455 citations), reflecting the strong impact and  relevance of his research. 

Dr. Lee has successfully secured approximately RM 700,000 in research funding from  the university, national, and international sources. Driven by a commitment to research, translation, and innovation, he has filed three patents with potential industrial  applications. His scholarly contributions extend to numerous peer-reviewed journals  and conference proceedings, where he actively disseminates advances in  nanomaterials, catalysis, and environmental chemistry. His work demonstrates a  strong interdisciplinary approach, bridging chemistry, materials science, and  environmental engineering. 

In recognition of his academic excellence and impactful research, Dr. Lee has received  several prestigious awards and recognitions. He has been listed among the Top 2%  Scientists in the World by Stanford University (2021–2025). His other honors include  the Excellence Service Award (2022) from Universiti Malaya, the Future Administrator  Award (2021) by Majlis Persatuan Pentadbir Universiti Awam Malaysia (MASTI), and  the Anugerah Pentadbir Universiti Malaya 2021 (Publication Category) by Persatuan  Pegawai Tadbir dan Ikhtisas (PEKERTI), Universiti Malaya. 

Professionally, Dr. Lee is an active member of several scientific and professional  organizations, including the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM), Malaysian Young  Chemists Network (MYCN), Young Scientists Network – Academy of Sciences  Malaysia (YSN-ASM), the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), United Kingdom,  Malaysian University Research Officer Society (MROS), and Persatuan Pegawai  Tadbir dan Ikhtisas Universiti Malaya (PEKERTI).
