As the world accelerates its transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy technologies, Professor Dr. Siti Rohana Majid has established herself as one of Malaysia's scientists in the field of advanced functional materials for energy storage. Her research has consistently focused on designing innovative electrochemical materials capable of improving the efficiency, durability and sustainability of next-generation energy devices. Through nearly two decades of scientific discovery, she has contributed significantly to the advancement of batteries, supercapacitors, polymer electrolytes and nanostructured materials that support the growing demand for renewable energy solutions.
Professor Siti Rohana obtained both her Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics and Doctor of Philosophy in Advanced Materials from Universiti Malaya, where she has built an academic career distinguished by excellence in both research and leadership. Alongside her work as a Professor in the Department of Physics, she has held several key leadership positions within the Faculty of Science, including Deputy Dean for Higher Degree and currently Deputy Dean (Student Affairs).
Her research spans a broad spectrum of advanced materials, with particular emphasis on electrochemical energy storage systems. She has made important contributions to the development of high-performance electrode materials based on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), graphene composites, conductive polymers and metal oxides for supercapacitors and next-generation rechargeable batteries. Her work has also advanced polymer electrolytes, fuel cells and dye-sensitised solar cells, creating new opportunities for cleaner and more efficient energy technologies. By integrating materials science with electrochemistry, her research continues to provide innovative solutions that address global challenges in sustainable energy and environmental resilience.
The international reach of Professor Siti Rohana's research is reflected in an impressive scholarly record. She has authored more than 250 scientific publications, accumulated over 5,000 citations, and achieved an H-index of 39 as well as gathered research funding exceeding RM2.2 million. From there, she has successfully led and contributed to numerous nationally funded research projects, while collaborating extensively with researchers across Malaysia and abroad.
Her achievements have been recognised through numerous national and international awards, including multiple Gold and Silver medals at innovation exhibitions, several Universiti Malaya Excellent Service Awards, and prestigious international appointments as Visiting Professor and Visiting Professorial Fellow at leading research institutions in Brazil and Australia. She has also served as an invited speaker, evaluator and research grant panel member, further contributing to the advancement of scientific research beyond her own laboratory.
