UM AND INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER NETWORKS CHINA ANNOUNCED PARTNERSHIP

Universiti Malaya (UM) via the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Office (Research & Innovation) has announced the partnership between the Technology Transfer Office in Universiti Malaya, the UM Centre of Innovation and Enterprise (UMCIE) with the International Technology Transfer Networks (ITTN) from China.

This partnership is strengthened by establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions. This MoU was signed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) of the Universiti Malaya, Professor Ir. Dr. Shaliza Ibrahim with Mr. John Zhang, Secretary-General of ITTN.

According to Professor Ir. Dr. Shaliza Ibrahim, this agreement will bring the results in promoting the institutions' work towards enhancing the technology transfer ecosystem in Malaysia and China.

“The MOU will explore the potential for both institutions to co-organize seminars and conferences, such as projects open call for 100 Best Industrial Innovations for International Technology Transfer 2022 and other relevant events; co-organize pitching sessions for technology companies in Asia; co-develop tech technology transfer certification program, such as Innovation and Technology Commercialization Professional (ITCP) Program in order to strengthen the human capacity building.

"This will pave the way for better human resource development in both institutions and increase the networks in different countries for outreach to industries. Additionally, this will also create opportunities for new and innovative technologies to be transferred from the lab to the marketplace,” she said.

Among those present were the Secretary-General of ITTN, Mr. John Zhang; the Director Of Industrial Innovation International Cooperation Center, ITTN, Ms. Cheng Tao; the Chief Researcher of ITTN, Mr. Liam Li; Project Manager of ITTN Ms. Willa Hu; CEO, UM Capital Berhad, Prof. Dr. Rofina Yasmin Othman; and the Director of University of Malaya Centre of Innovation & Enterprise (UMCIE), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivy Chung.
